I'm feeling a bit down. Today is one of those days where I've been sabotaging myself. I went vegan for lent. But, it's Pi day so I brought pie to my colleagues at work. And then I had some pie. I am feeling the effects even now.
It may take me some time to recover. There's a reason I'm eating vegan. Dairy causes migraines and I'm lactose intolerant. I got a headache a bit after eating pie. Ugh!
Anyway, this song is a lullaby for me as I comfort myself through this bout of self-sabotage. I love the Dixie Chicks. This is my kind of country.

Song of the Day: Monday
Monday was a busy day, so I forgot to post. I am in South Bend looking for an apartment. I spent the day driving hither and thither trying to find a place. Calling and talking to people, touring apartments.
My choice was quickly narrowed down for me, though. One company that runs two different apartment complexes hasn't called me back; it's been more than a day since I called. They are off the list. Once place was small, dingy and hot. They are off the list.
That left me with two places that are equidistant from work. When I thought about that fact that for the price of a one bedroom apartment with washer and dryer in one complex, I could get a two bedroom, two bath apartment with washer and dryer in the other complex and still halve my current rent, the choice was clear. I still needed to talk to someone and have them confirm what I knew was true, though. But, I am almost in my apartment. The lease should be coming to me in a couple of days. Now I just need to organize the move.
Anyway, this hunt for apartments and my impending visit to see my family has me in a bit of a maudlin mood. This mood calls for the Dixie Chicks! I like this song.

Song of the Day: Thursday
As much as is possible I avoid conflict. I don't like to argue or fight. When I lose my temper one of two thing will likely happen. I will either get mad and cry. Or, I will get mad and say things that have the potential to scorch the earth.
So, as much as possible I try to keep my cool. Instead, I will bite my tongue and walk away from a situation. Most times I never revisit an incident with the other party. However, if the problem is pernicious enough, I will organize my thoughts and approach the other party to get to resolution. That, of course, assumes that there is a somewhat equal relationship.
The other day I had a heated conversation with someone who wants me to think of him as my equal despite the fact that he occasionally likes to play whose the boss. It resolved itself with me getting mad and speaking my mind. Not my first choice of how to interact with this person. Usually my first response is to duck and nod and teleport myself somewhere else, if I could.
Anyway, when I mentioned to a friend something I said, she told me that I was so direct (like that is a negative thing). I left her office singing this song, not from the "love done wrong gets even" point of view but from the "enough is enough" perspective. Gotta love country girls getting feistier!

Song of the Day: Thursday
I am so happy the weekend is just a day away. Really long week and still a lot to get done before I can call it quits for the weekend.
Honestly, there were so many songs going through my head today that there wasn't one that just stuck with me. Instead, I present you with Adele.
This song reminds me of the Chicks' Taking the Long Way. Not sure why. Maybe it's just because it's the emotional reminder of going home, the good the bad and the unspeakable. Different stories but the same.

Song of the Day: Thursday
A few weeks ago I started a regular quiet time five times a week. It's set up so that the daily theme stays the same but every week I apply the theme to a new psalm.
Day two of the quite time theme is called Truth No. 2. For some reason, every time I get to Day 2, I start singing this song. Apparently this is a Patty Griffin cover, but I love the Chicks. So I chose the Chicks.
